Jar with Molded Decoration
Iran A.H. 681 AD 1282-83

Monochrome-glazed frit ware

Reflects the aesthetic of the Mongol period. Filled with a landscape inhabited by animals and plants with some naturalism. An inscription on it says, “Tumultuous air and boiling earth. Joyous is he whose heart is happy. Drink!”

In this picture I was writing what I wrote above this picture.
Candlestick Base
Iran early 14th century

Brass originally inlaid with silver and gold

Shows connection between metalwork and contemporary illustrated manuscripts through intermediary of stenciled drawings. There are illustrations from the great Mongol Shahnama of a man striking an animal with a sword engraved on the side.

Not In the Genghis Khan Exhibit, But I Like It.
